Something has probably gone wrong with a previous install. This might be
the reason why the graphics driver failed to build and install.

You can solve this by running the following command:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libcompress-raw-zlib-perl libio-compress-base-perl libio-compress-zlib-perl libcompress-zlib-perl

Let us known if this fixes your problem.

After installing and fighting and reinstalling the OS my card NVIDIA TNT2
is NOT supported by 10.4 version. When I was working with 8.4 it had a good resolution and color management.
Why the difference, I know is an old card but the newer versions should keep the old legacy

Is the original issue with libio-compress-zlib-perl fixed ?

regarding the pb with your graphic card, it should still be supported in Intrepid. You need to use the driver nvidia-glx-71 .
