Bug Description
Binary package hint: cups
In Kubuntu 8.10 Intrepid with cups 1.3.9-2ubuntu4:
When entering the web admin module and trying to modify printer properties the web admin module prompts for a username and password as it ought to. However, when the credentials are passed, instead of letting me update it either prompts for a username and password again or fails to authenticate the user with a 401 error.
Strangely by looking into the log it appears as if I am sending blank credentials. I certainly am not, I am trying to authenticate as root.
The only possibly unusual thing about this server is that it also uses an ebox LDAP user system along with the standard unix authentication.
I have attached the related error log.
In Ubuntu by default there is no root password defined. If you did not define one, you have to give the credentials of a user in the "lpadmin" group. The first user which Ubuntu creates on installation is in the "lpadmin" group.
This can also be a bug of LDAP. Please check appropriate log files.
