Bug Description

Binary package hint: usb-creator

It would be nice is USB-Creator could create a LiveUSB image from the currently running LiveUSB (as it can from a LiveCD). I believe that all required files are available on disk. New persistence file could be set to 'none', 'new' or 'clone'.

This would allow the 'viral' propagation of the Linux distribution in question, and also transfers to newer/larger(?) USB sticks by non-technical people.
Cheers,
Mungewell.

I'd like to see this too. It's a bit silly to require an .iso file matching the running system when the very same files are available under /cdrom. (Keep the option to install different versions of Ubuntu, of course, and do require an .iso file then.)

Usb-creator should probably verify MD5 sums in this case, as I've definitely seen minor file corruption (which can lead to boot failures) with some flash drives. But for ~700MB of freed-up space, it's worth it.

An old patch by "probono," in a bug report marked as a duplicate of this one, may be worth a look:
