Bug Description

In Ubuntu 8.04, gcolor2 was fully translated in French. Now in Ubuntu 8.10, gcolor2 isn't translated at all. All the strings are in English. See the attached screen shot.

By looking at the gcolor2 source package, it seems that the po directory contains no translations. This stems from the fact that the upstream tarball at http://sourceforge.net/projects/gcolor2/files/gcolor2/0.4/gcolor2-0.4.tar.gz/download was shipped with no translations.

This is someting which cannot be solved by language packs, since gcolor2 is not in the 'main' repository and thus cannot be translated in Ubuntu.

I would recommend you to file a bug at the upstream project so that they include the translations. You can do it here: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=add&group_id=119919&atid=685759

Looking at the gcolor2 source pacakge I can see that we have the same package in Hardy, Intrepid and also Karmic.

I have checked the source package used in Ubuntu 8.04, It does not contains any translations. I don't know how it was translated.
Maybe I'm omitting something.

To solve this problem you should translate gcolo2 and sent the translation upstream

Do you still have access to your hardy system?
Can you please provide the output for:
$ dpkg-query -L gcolor2

Cheers

I'm marking this bug as Invalid as per comment #3 and #5 (no translations are installed on the system, even on Hardy). Please feel free to submit a bug upstream so that the translation is included in the distributed sources.

Thanks!
