flash player crashes firefox

I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my rather old dell pc and it works like a charm exept, when i installed the latest ver of flash player in firefox. when i try to view a movie on youtube for example, firefox freezes and i cant recover. i have to force quit firefox.

I tried to download and install flash player 10 from adobes homepage but when i do, it says "error, later version already installed"

In firefox it says the version is "9.0 r999"

I just started using Ubuntu but i like it very much so far and i dont want to go back to microsoft software just because of my incompetence, so please if u can help me!

Can you open Synaptic (system>administration) and try to do a reinstallation of the flashplugin-nonfree package?

Hi!

It have improved a little bit, but not enough. Right now it doesn't crashes
but it still working unproperly: i can not see what the *flash* is playing,
I mean in webs maden with flash I can hear the sound, Firefox does not
crash, but I am not able to see what is happening in the *flash* app.

Thank you. A new version of the flash player has been released. Could you please upgrade that flashplugin-nonfree package on your system? Please let us know if that fixes your problem.

I've upgraded it, but nothing has happened. I've restarted the computer and
also I've purged it and reinstalled it but it still unworking...

I see that you have ubufox installed. Can you please try Tools -> Manage Content Plugins on a page with flash and see if you can select the Flash 10 player?

I've try it on this website: www.myspace.com/espart. And the option "*Manage
Content Plugins*" from TOOLS appeared me more clear as the other options and
I wasn't able to click on it, like if it was unactivated. Still unworking.

I've tried it.

With the new profile I was able to access to the "*Manage Content Plugins*"
option. Once on it I wasn't able to find/select any Flash 10 or similar.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, that you should be on a Flash page when looking at Manage Content Plugins. Could you please tell us what is in the Drop Down Box next to shockwave flash on a flash page? A screenshot would work also.

 I have today exactly the same bug 300122 reported by Rickard.
Small difference : installed for and worked with Google street;
crashes when opening a site in Firefox upon a popup.

while on this site I report as well on "https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yelp/+filebug-advanced/" saying I have a problem with adobe flashpayer and not with yelp and reporting the problem I got a question : see bottom of include part

1) Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10 (got from 'lsb_release -rd' nothing found with "System -> About Ubuntu")
2) checking in Synaptic for "adobe flash player" I find "flashplugin-nonfree" and ""flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound" both non checked so not installed. I have to say that I installed adobe flashplayer from the windows in google street saying I need it to use Google street. On adobe site I selected flashplayer for Ubuntu 8.10 . The installation went OK. And then see above the description of the bug.
   Question : is not the bug due to the fact that I installed adobe flash player directly from internet as proposed by the link in google street and not from Synaptic ?
Do I have to uninstall adobe flash player (how?) and install via synaptic the 2 flashplugin-nonfree packages?

Can you please run:
sudo apt-get purge flashplugin-nonfree
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
Let us know if that fixes it.
