I agree, if you go to the developers sourceforge site he doesn't even offer the version that is in the repos because it is so old.....please, please, please update the version

This won't happen for Jaunty now, as it is released later this week. I did start work on this a while back, but then never got a chance to finish it

i have the same problem with automatic login not working....i have preload installed so i searched for the problem and if it is preload that is causing the automatic login problem...then please update it when you have the time. and thanks for all ur work.

Preload has nothing to do with your login problem, I don't know what makes you think that.

I'm going to work on this in the next couple of weeks. It's currently waiting on dpkg 1.15.1 which has support for setting IO priority with start-stop-daemon from the init script. This is means that we can drop the current Ubuntu patch which sets the IO priority from the actual preload binary.

I found someones PPA that has built a package of of the recent preload here is the apt/sources.list entry I added....You may want to just download the package from there since the maintainers have various random projects that they are building packages for, and some of them are default packages in ubuntu, and so adding the ppa will automatically update those packages too, personally I used the preload so I couldn't tell you about their other stuff, but the build of preload seems to be working well

It can be synced from debian unstable:

preload (0.6.4-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (Closes: #495549)
    * Improve argument handling (Closes: #508809)
  * Use start-stop-daemon's --iosched option to set idle IO priority,
    don't patch preload itself to offer an option to use it.
  * No more patches applied; quilt dropped as a build dep.
  * Removed code from postinst that used to clean up state file from under
    /var/cache/.
  * Standards-Version: 3.8.2 (no changes necessary).

No it can't, because it needs a newer version of dpkg for the --iosched
option in start-stop-daemon

Here's a delta to Debian for the merge, keeping the old patch to enable idle IO scheduling from the preload binary. As mentioned in the changelog, we can drop these changes when we get dpkg 1.15.

We just got dpkg 1.15 now from Debian, meaning this package is syncable again (we don't need the Ubuntu-specific change in the patch above)
