cd playback stops and program locks up

Binary package hint: totem

at random point in some tracks the cd playback stops and program locks up. switching tracks or hitting other buttons is ineffective. restarting player only works for a few tracks, then it happens again. cd works fine in other devices.

sorry if i haven't been able to provide more information. i know next to nothing about computers and can't say for sure that the problem wasn't with the cd or the hardware.
