backend erroneously reports "Done" while in the midst of loading

When launching the GUI, the backend will spew out several lines of text saying "Loading" and then will say "Done" when in fact it's only half done.

Is there even a reason for having this "Loading" text repeat? If it just displays "Loading" on the command line once, that is adequate until we can implement better progress feedback to the user.

The last update that was committed by Brien took this out, it was just there to let people testing without the GUI know that the program was running while they were waiting.
