[intrepid] 64bit freezes randomly

I installed intrepid next to my windows XP installation and I am getting random freezes (several times a day).
I can still move the mouse but that's about it. Only thing that i can do is do a hard reset.

hardware:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
4 times: Corsair 1024MB, DDR, 128MX64

$ uname -a
Linux delhi-linux 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Tue Nov 4 19:33:06 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Looks similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/293348

I'll attach the log files and happy to provide more details if you wish.

It's probably something different than bug 293348, since I am also getting the freezes with 2GB internal memory.

Intel Centrino Core Duo T2500 @ 2.00GHz
2x 512 MB RAM

OS:
Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10

It looks like the problem is solved after I activated the ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver in System > Administration > Hardware Drivers.
