Yes, I get sound from vlc, totem and other applications. I assume therefore
that it is a tuxguitar issue.

Have you installed sound plugins too ? like tuxguitar-jsa
Else please provide additional info, or I need someone to confirm this is a bug
I am about to release a new package on debian side, you can also test snapshots versions from my ppa :

tuxguitar-jsa installed.

What other info do you need?

Tuxguitar-alsa needs timidity or some other midi sequencer to work, but currently tuxguitar doesn't depend on it so it isn't installed by default.

I installed Timidity through synaptic but it didn't change anything for me.

For some reason, sound works now. I did not change anything in Tuxguitar. We
can probably close this bug now.
