Bug Description

I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10. GoogleEarth status bar and map labels are now missing characters (eg: S n Fr nci c). lbreakout status indicators on right side of playing field (eg: "Slow" or Blue/Red Balls) have a screen-door effect. Other->OpenGL reports "Library files for "kcm_info.la" not found in paths."

Thanks for reporting this bug. Please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /var/log/syslog files to this bug report after the bug has been reproduced.

Also, could you try catch the errors/ugly effects on a screenshot and attach?
Thanks in advance.

Hi. Hope this screenshot illustrates the GoogleEarth problem. (It was great before 8.10, and its still not THAT bad). City names are missing letters (usually vowels, but not always). Street names are fine, though I did have to screw around with font settings, and can't tell you what worked.

I should mention, I have a Dell D610 laptop with an external LCD monitor attached. Both screens match. I'm also using a USB keyboard and mouse.

I couldn't capture a screenshot of lBreakout2.

Don't know how to attach more than one file, so here's /var/log/Xorg.0.log

I fought and lost. I was able to get the fonts back in GoogleEarth, but the speed of the program was unacceptable (for me). There were other manifestations that the "fix" was more of a band aid. Slow Lattice screensaver, Lbreakout graphics problems.

I played with the /boot/config files, the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, switched mesa glx and swx11 back and forth and off. I "upgraded" to Jaunty Alpha, which I felt broke much more than it fixed.

In the end, I backed up what I hope will be everything (that jury is still out) and repartitioned, installed Ubuntu 7.10, then upgraded through 8.04.

A few more twiddles were necessary. I know I had to goof around some more with mesa and the Screen Resolution "mirror" check mark. It was sudden and inexplicable. Everything just decided to work.

I know I'm on another thread stating that the Jaunty upgrade worked. I can't find that post, but would amend it to say it worked until I rebooted.

Hi chip-westcoastbrowns,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` too.

Sorry Bryce,

Per my last post of 12-22-08, I've gone way back to 8.04 and am happy again. I've been VERY selective about any "Recommended" upgrades I'm getting notified of. If you still want that output, I'll figure out how to get it to you.

I'll be damned! I see the xserver-xorg ... etc. etc. Recommended upgrades have a "thanks" to YOU in the description. Things are too good right now to allow them onto my system.

Apologies are probably in order. I've been ranting in another thread (google-earth) as well.

Hi,

I've got the same Problem here (same Graphic, 8.10 with all Updates, same Letter-Bug). Using google-earth 4.3.7284.3916 (beta). I attached the output you wanted Bryce. Hope it helps to fix that.

@newer, thanks but actually I would need a full set of files from you to have a consistent debugging set. Really it'd probably be easier if you just made a new bug report (file as 'ubuntu-bug xorg'), if you can reproduce the problem on Karmic.
