Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Dragging an image onto a disk almost always means that the user wants to burn the image to the disk, rather than creating a filesystem with the .iso as a single file. nautilus should detect this case and offer to burn the .iso directly to the disk, and explain what the difference is. ("If you are unsure, you probably want to say yes." or similar)

I think this feature request properly belongs to nautilus-cd-burner. I've seen people affected by similar problems, and this might be a good way of avoiding a usability minefield (and a lot of coasters).

Perhaps the specific behavior which is wanted is to prompt if the user tries to put a disk image file in an otherwise blank CD?

It is probably also necessary to define the desired behavior in the case where the user has already added files or directories to the CD.

the request is an upstream one and should be sent to bugzilla.gnome.org

Weel, I've decided to upgrade my Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10, unfortunately I've the bug in the nautilus burner.
There are two possibilities, it's some problem with the kernell itself, or is a bug in the nautilus burner. I've tried to burn a lot of CD's with the same result, that is reported in the attachement the result of Brasero burning an imagem of 168 mg.

I would like some advice, I regred only the nautilus, or it's preferable to return to 8.04.

JotaCapa: that appears to be a kernel issue. Could you please file a separate bug about your issue with more detailed information about your hardware, so that kernel people can look at it?

What kind of «lshw » it's necessary to send to see what kind of mistakes have this kernell, because the burner cd works fine in another machine, such as a Fujitsu-Siemens V5515, therefore, the LiveCD in these one don't pass from the BusyBox freeze there.

I tried to put the problem as a kernell bu 2.6.27-7-generic, but I think I was not sucessfull with that.

For that reason I'll send you the file, opping that we can translate my problems.

See, In a Fujitsu-Siemens V5515 I can compile the graphics drive wich I could with 8.04, however I can sucessfully burn CD/DVD's.

In the other machine AMD/Athlon XP +2400 with a Nvidia 6200 AGP8X 256MB DDR the burner doesn't work, however in 8.04 and in XP the burning are OK.
