Now running emacs "23/1+1-4ubuntu2+22.2+0ubuntu6.1"
Because 23 is now available (more or less), I'm steering clear of "-snapshot"

Call this "Works For Me" I guess -- I don't see the problem presently.

Off hand (IMNSHO), "emacsen" should put compilation logs somewhere easier to not lose. Maybe I can get into it and come up with something, but any random monkey would probably finish the task more quickly.

closing bug on submitter's request, thanks for reporting back.

as for the compilation logs, starting in lucid apport should be able to attach them automatically. perhaps we can backport that change to earlier ubuntu versions...
