Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

I just upgraded from Ubuntu LTS 8.04 to Ubuntu Ibex 8.10 four days ago. Brasero worked perfectly under Hardy Heron bu t not under Intrepid Ibex. Below is the dmesg output:

willie@cpu5:~$ dmesg
[ 4268.060025] usb 5-8: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 9
[ 4268.241157] usb 5-8: configuration #2 chosen from 1 choice
[ 4268.241950] scsi9 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
[ 4268.244329] usb-storage: device found at 9
[ 4268.244335] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
[ 4273.244146] usb-storage: device scan complete
[ 4273.245996] scsi 9:0:0:0: CD-ROM ARCHOS SlimCDRW 8824 1.50 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 CCS
[ 4273.260725] sr1: scsi3-mmc drive: 24x/24x writer cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
[ 4273.261745] sr 9:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr1
[ 4273.262558] sr 9:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 5
willie@cpu5:~$

The Brasero window does not recognize the drive, even when empty media is on it. CD/DVD creator does recognize the drive but doesn't recognize empty media on it.

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I can confirm this on Karmic (which, to me, means that even in Jaunty this may give problems)

tail -f /var/log/messages shows this:

Kernel mailing list, if I'm not wrong; the first refers to 2.6.31, I am currently running 2.6.31-4 amd64

P.S. I don't think this has a "Low" priority: you can't burn any disc in any way.
That's, to me, very bad...
