Bug Description

Binary package hint: f-spot

Actually this might not be F-spot at all, but I don't know where else to start. Following up on the request to file a debug report in the similar looking bug #264343, I'm attaching-spot-debug.txt and Xorg.0.log.

System seems to lock up completely: no more keyboard + mouse input, audio halts, X doesn't respond to Ctrl Alt Backspace and even Alt SysRq s u b doesn't work either. Haven't tried remote access.

I'm running Compiz but the same freeze occurred when disabling desktop effects.

thanks for the report, but there's nothing on the files you attached that may indicate a hang or that f-spot is causing the system freeze, do you get the same with another application like eog, evince or totem at fullscreen?

Thanks for looking into this. I tried full screen in eog, evince and totem. None of those seem to cause any problems.

Actually, the same holds for full screen in f-spot: it seems to work fine in full screen mode. But the slide show is misbehaving. Could it be anything to do with the transition effect? There's a strange flicker before the first slide is displayed, then a couple show up fine, with a sort of fade to white (?) between the slides, and then the system just freezes.

Is there a way to disable the transition effect?

Something else I've noticed: after stopping (pressing power for 4s) and shortly thereafter booting, the last image (the slide displayed when the freeze occurs) is visible for a couple of milliseconds, just before the gdm login screen comes up. I guess this is just a physical phenomenon related to some property of the hardware, not sure if it's any help but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

This problem seems to have disappeared after upgrading to Jaunty beta.
