Bug Description

I have installed Xubuntu 8.10 on an old Compaq Presarion 1500 laptop with 256 Mb RAM. It works very good until I leave it and the system chutes down into sleep-mood. When I tries to activate the computer again the screen lights up and looks perfectly normal except, there is no pointer and the keyboard and the pad does not respond.
To get out of this I need to restart the computer. As far as I can see, this happens every time it goes into sleep mood.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. Please attach the following information to the bug report as _separate_ attachments:
    * Output of uname -a
    * Output of sudo lspci -vvnn
    * Output of sudo dmidecode
    * Try to hibernate/suspend and then restart the system and attach /var/log/kern.log.0
    * Tarball of /proc/acpi directory. You can't just tar all files because their content sometimes changes etc.
          * cp -r /proc/acpi /tmp
          * tar -cvjf ~/acpi.tar.bz /tmp/acpi

 Hi Charlie,
Some attachments as requested but need handholding on others:
* Try to hibernate/suspend and then restart the system and attach /var/log/kern.log.0
* Tarball of /proc/acpi directory. You can't just tar all files because their content sometimes changes etc.
* cp -r /proc/acpi /tmp -- sudo cp -r /proc/acpi /tmp
cp: cannot open `/proc/acpi/event' for reading: Device or resource busy

 Thanks --Hope this helps
Wil

Do you get a desktop back or a blank screen? The original report was a desktop that is complete with a mouse pointer. The mouse and keyboard could not be used and the power button is used to restart the system.

Hi Charlie,
After wake monitor is still in power save mode( Blank power light orange)
All keyboard lights off and no response from mouse- laser of mouse is lit. Power light changes from blinking to steady on. After holding holding power button for ten seconds power light goes off and on restart all is normal.
