There is an advance in this bug?
It will not be usable with this version 8.10 of ubuntu?

Looking at that image you are hitting a very very early bug before proper panic is even possible. That is pretty nasty.
Please get the information in the forum pasted in here too. Would make reading the total bug information much simpler.
From our IRC conversation it seems you have a working debian/lenny installation so the machine is obviously bootable in general. It also gives us the ooptunity to get more information about the machine.
So I would recommend:
1) get the image from the forum loaded up against this bug as you need to register to read it which people won't bother to do,
2) get as much hardware information as you can off the Debian install: /proc/cpuinfo, lspci -vv, dmiinfo and attach them to this bug too, and
3) as you have a working 2.6.26 system, perhaps you could compile a 2.6.27 mainline kernel and see if that boots with your Debian userspace.
The last of these will help to eliminate the differences from 2.6.26 -> 2.6.27 as the cause.
Andy Whitcroft (apw) wrote : | #5 |
It also seems that you had a working Hardy system which broke when updated to Inrepid. When the kernel was updated. So that very much points at the kernel. Compiling the mainline kernel in (3) above would help to confirm if it is a general 2.6.27 kernel issue or something specific to the Ubuntu image.

the picture is attached here, and if it is not good quality i will translate it on Sunday when i will be at the place with the computer.
Also i will bring all these information you say.
Finnaly i don;t know how can i do this compilation of DEBIAN lenny to 2.6.27 mainline...
How can i do it?

I just built a PC using the Intel DP43TF board. I don't have the same problem as the original poster but have some observations that might be helpful.
The original BIOS firmware on my board was version 0051 dated August 4, 2008. That version would not boot Ubuntu 8.04 or 8.10. Ubuntu 8.04 dropped to to the "initramfs" prompt in BusyBox, possibly what the OP is now reporting with Kubuntu 8.10. Ubuntu 8.10 crashed with error codes that I didn't write down.
I updated the BIOS firmware to version 0074 dated January 9, 2009. Ubuntu 8.04 still won't boot, but 8.10 boots and installed with no obvious problem.
I haven't started actively using Ubuntu 8.10 on this machine but almost everything I've tried seems to work fine. The only problem I've noticed is that Totem crashes when I try to play an audio file (Rhythmbox and the Nautilus preview work fine with the same file).

I have not, but as far as I know I'm not having issues with 8.10.

According to the Intel BIOS manual there seems to be a setting in BIOS that let's you to choose your SATA mode (Advanced > Drive Configuration Menu > Configure SATA as) which is by default set to "IDE". Do you have tried "AHCI" instead?

I made the change and can now boot the 8.04 live CD. Thank you!
I hope this helps the original poster.

I looked into this further. The computer in question is set to dual-boot
Ubuntu 8.10 and Windows XP SP2.
Setting "Configure SATA as" to "AHCI" allows the Ubuntu 8.04 live CD to
boot. Unfortunately, this setting interferes with normal operation of my
computer. The GRUB menu is very slow to appear and Windows XP is no
longer bootable (because I don't have AHCI drivers installed). Ubuntu
8.10 still boots, though.

Hi guys!
After trying a lot of ways to get it I already installed kubuntu successfully, but I using now Ubuntu instead...
I guess it is not matter of Motherboard, it is IDE and SATA conflict
How did I solve my Problem? I disconnected IDE disk and installed Ubuntu in SATA disk, but I have a new problem now! In SATA disk are installed XP and Ubuntu and everything works fine, but if I connect IDE disk it is impossible to start Ubuntu, it only permit XP to start and recognize both disks IDE and SATA
How can it be fixed???
Thanks for the help

The master boot record on the IDE disk doesn't know about Ubuntu because
that disk wasn't present when you installed Ubuntu. You may be able to
repair the problem by re-installing GRUB.
This issue isn't related to the bug you reported so I suggest that you
ask for further help on the ubuntu-users mailing list.

Hi dgrt,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-
apport-collect -p linux 292663
Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/
Thanks in advance.

Did you read my response from March 3?
With this motherboard, a PATA (IDE) drive always seems to take
precedence over a SATA drive. If you install an operating system
on the SATA drive without the PATA drive present, and then install the
PATA drive, the disk partition numbers will change and the installed
operating system won't boot.
It appears to me that you can't add or remove a PATA drive once you've
installed an operating system on a SATA drive.
