Bug Description

Binary package hint: cairo-dock

I just updated the new version of cairo-dock and it crashed during the update.

Now the theme and applets all disappeared and when I ran it through the terminal I got the following messages.

I think the new plug-in has some problem and failed to update properly.

The attached image shows what I can see in the Synaptic Package Manager.

As you can see the version of 'cairo-dock-plug-ins' is different from the versions of 'cairo-dock' and 'cairo-dock-data', and I'm also not sure if the 'cairo-dock-data' is installed properly.

Hi,
Thanks for replying to me. I found that Cairo Dock plugins was not
installed (or somehow uninstalled by Intrepid upgrade), so I re-installed
it. However, when I checked in Applications, I still don't see Cairo Dock at
its usual place, in fact I don't see it at all. Synaptic Package Manager
shows that Cairo Dock is installed. Pleasse help me get Cairo Dock back.
Thanks.

The latest update has ruined the plug-ins. Last time this happened, I just re-loaded the plug-ins .deb and all was good, but this time that didn't happen. It works but minus the plug-ins.

Hi,

I finally was able to solve the problem of disappearing cairo-dock in my Ubuntu Intrepid laptop, courtesy of the solution posted in www.cairo-dock.org. First, I purged all cairo-dock related applications, updated and saved the sources file, sudo apt-get update, and finally re-installed cairo-dock, cairo-dock-data and cairo-dock-plug-ins. Now I have the latest cairo-dock version 1.6.3.1

Hello, Hoa Le

I don't think the problem is solved by that solution you mentioned, yet
it is solved as the new version of cairo-dock, which does not have the
problem described here, is uploaded to the repository on the 15th of
November (about 3 days ago). So re-installation could solve the problem.

However, all the themes have gone for this new version. Well, it
happened to 64bit version only I think. If you check out the link below,
you can see the size of cairo-dock 64bit version is about 1.4 MiB, but
it used to be about 7 MiB.

http://repository.cairo-dock.org/ubuntu/dists/intrepid/cairo-dock/binary-amd64/

The /usr/share/cairo-dock/themes directory has only the default theme.

Although you can still download themes using 'Manage themes' menu, there
is no 'MacOS X Leopard' theme available from the menu any more. If
anyone wants to have it, it can be acquired from the link below.

MacOSX Leopard Cairo-Dock Theme 1.0
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/MacOSX+Leopard+Cairo-Dock+Theme?content=89410

After downloading the archive file, extract it to
/usr/share/cairo-dock/themes directory or
/home/${USER}/.config/cairo-dock/themes directory then use 'Manage
themes' menu in the cairo-dock.

Regards,
Kevin

Sorry, Hoa Le.

Your disappearing problem is different from the one I thought. I thought
it was that the cairo-dock plug-in is not installed properly. :)

Anyway, it's good to hear that my problem and yours are all solved. :D

Kevin

the problem is:
cairo-dock from ubuntu repo is compiled without glitz.
even though depends on glitz libs when installing.

this makes cairo-dock unusable, so that is why some people get a cairo-dock repo.
than, after installing that version, ibex wants to make an update.
unless you lock the version in synaptic.
and than it crashes, blablabla and you end up here..

how about compiling cairo-dock for ubuntu-repo with glitz?
that would be genius! and great.
thx 1000x

anyway,
i also saw that i had a old cairo-repo in my source.lst
(deb http://repository.cairo-dock.org/ubuntu hardy cairo-dock)
and after chanching it to deb http://repository.cairo-dock.org/ubuntu intrepid cairo-dock
the thing worked out perfect. the version is higher than ubuntu's repo-pkg but this version seems also not to be compiled with glitz... that is like giving you a car with squared wheels, because the round wheels are devils-blabla.. or i just do not understand, but sorry and thx anyway.. will compile it my self with glitz in a sunday morning or so..
