Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Hello,
I recently received an RTF document and used Open Office Writer to open it and record my changes to it. When I saved it, I was not prompted to change the document to .odt or .doc, so I just saved it to rtf again. Now the edited document cannot be opened and received the following error notice:
Read-Error
File format error found at 140, 7 (row, col.)
I am using OO 2.20 for a Mac OS 10.4.11.
I am reporting this as a new bug because it seems to specifically be editing it with "record changes" that caused the formatting crash. Otherwise I have opened, edited and saved other RTFs with no problem in OO.
I've attached the bugged document...
Thank you for your help!
GA

Can you attach the original version of the file as well, before it was corrupted?

Hold on you are running OpenOffice.org 2.2 on MacOS and reporting the bug to Ubuntu? Why is that exactly?

This bug tracker is for Ubuntu only and Ubuntu's special version of OpenOffice.org in particular. To report bugs to OpenOffice.org for anything else you have to report them to:

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/enter_bug.cgi

Changed in openoffice.org:
status: Incomplete → Invalid

Also before reporting this bug to the other bug tracker update to the current version and see if you still have the problem. The current version is 3.0.0.

Thanks for the advice, and sorry for reporting to the wrong people!
I couldn't figure out where to submit it frankly.
I will try upgrading first if it suits my system.
All the best,
GA

I'll report it for Writer 3.0.0 in Ubuntu 8.04. RTF file with 'record changes' won't open in OOo Writer or MS Word. It will open with MS WordPad . . . The error I get is:

File format error found at 611,2(row,col).

Any way to restore it . . . ?

There is no OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 in Ubuntu 8.04. You probably want to report this to the official OpenOffice.org website bug tracker.

Then how'd I get this:

OpenOffice.org 3.0.0
OOO300m9 (Build:9358)

in this:

Release 8.04 (hardy)
Kernel Linux 2.6.24-19-generic
GNOME 2.22.3
???

I tend not to comment on 'bugs' unless they're affecting me . . . And this one is affecting me exactly as described. I'd appreciate being taken seriously. :-/ But I will report it at OOo and see if/how they handle. Thanks,

Paul

I don't know where you got it from, you tell me.

I maintain OpenOffice.org for Ubuntu so I would know if 3.0.0 was in Ubuntu 8.04. OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 wasn't even released when Ubuntu 8.04 was released and we do not put entirely new versions of OpenOffice.org into old releases of Ubuntu.

And to show you for certain what is actually in 8.04 look at:

http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org

As you will see the version in Ubuntu 8.04 is openoffice.org 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.1

So maybe you used some other unofficial Ubuntu debs from somewhere else? Report the bug wherever you got the OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 from.

Note that there have been openoffice.org 3.0.0 debs available from my PPA for Intrepid (8.10)/Jaunty (9.04) but never for Hardy (8.04).
