KONVERSATION keeps disconnecting me from the irc.ubuntu.com even though i have a fine internet connection!!

every single time i am connecting through KONVERSATION to the irc.ubuntu.com / freenode irc servers and trying to ask a question, i get inevitable lag delay and then disconnected... yet internet browsing through firefox seems to be connected fine... ?????

I cannot duplicate this problem using konversation on Ubuntu 8.04. It is possible that there is something wrong with you internet connection that does not effect HTTP, but does effect IRC.

What do you mean by lag delay?

Also to quote one of the canned responces. Could you provide:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Honestly this seems much more likely to be a networking related misconfiguration or bug than one in Konversation. But more info will be needed to know for sure.

was using intrepid 8.10, not 8.04.

1. opened konversation. it gives the motd. i identify. then it lags, and it eventually cuts out/reconnects. (internet http seems fine at the moment.)
2. the regular channels i have bookmarked and set to auto-open to open. none did. nor did my identity get successfully accepted, nor did i retain a connection to the irc channel/server..
3. see 1. there's really no more detail i could see/discern, unless you can suggest some info/specifically how to get it..

i've heard of their being possibly something awry with the ip stack and how it deals with irc communication? there is also definitely a wireless internet issue -- or general networking issue -- which has been noted in some of my other bugs encountered, related for instance to rt73usb.. etc..

I'm seeing the same problem (kubuntu 8.04). Here's a typical session:

[15:59] [Info] Connected; logging in...
[15:59] [auth] *** Looking up your hostname...
[15:59] [Notice] -- *** Found your hostname, welcome back
[15:59] [Notice] -- *** Checking ident
[15:59] [Notice] -- *** No identd (auth) response
[15:59] [Nick] Nickname already in use. Trying lcampagn_.

Note that the second time, my nick is still in use since the last session terminated prematurely.

Have you tried with a different IRC client such as Quassel?

This really seems to be more of an internet configuration problem than a bug, so I am converting this bug into a support question so that hopefully you can get some help. Thanks for understanding.
