Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Firefox v3.0.3 crashed when I closed one of the two tabs I had open. One of the tabs was a regular web page (google.com) and the other had a flash video. I closed the second tab and firefox grayed forcing me to close it and restart it.

flash issue then. consider to try gnash or swfdec-mozilla which are probably less reliable but more stable.

I have the same problem, however switching to gnash did not fix it.
Running firefox from the terminal gave me this (times 6):
(firefox:12314): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

I have an ATI Radeon HD3650 with 8.10 Catalyst drivers.

could you please post a simple step by step instruction how to reproduce this? Also, where did you get your ati driver from? is that a manual install?

I installed the Catalyst driver using the howto located here: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Hardy_Installation_Guide (more specifically the section titled Method 2: Manual Install Method).
Reproducing the bug is simple. All I have to do is go to youtube.com, load a video, play it and then close the tab while the video is still playing. I experienced several of those crashes today, all had the same characteristic. Closing the tab after the video has finished playing usually did not result in a crash. I use Firefox v 3.0.3.

what graphics driver are you using? try to use the free alternative if you are using proprietary stuff (e.g. nvidia => nv, fglrx => ati or radeonhd).

I am using proprietary drivers - binary linux drivers from ATI. My graphics card is Radeon HD 3650, the open source drivers can't even render 2d properly (simple scrolling in a web browser produces screen tearing).

I also have this problem with Firefox 3.05 and this site:

When ever I close the tab with the above video, Firefox crashes.

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 with Flash 64.
