Bug Description

need to work out mechanics of how we do multiple registrations -

Either boilerplating, or single entry with multiple users.

Need to allow someone not registering for conference to have a record (i.e. a payee; perhaps a "not attending conference" checkbox - this would handle "not-attending conference, but attending one or more tutorials")

There was some discussion at meeting 10/13 about "permission to change" when there is a alternate payee - I think this is simply a matter of allow anything, and let payee see detail summary of what they're paying for (a shopping-cart sort of scene).

[11:35am] dougn: Also [current demo] cant have 2 reg with same e-mail (must allow for that, as some HR people will not give out employee e-mails, and will want all the reg e-mails to go to them)

[11:38am] dougn: A link to add another registrant on the 'PayNow' page should do the trick

[11:39am] massimodipierro_: I think it important that each person is unique identified by an email.

>>> but this could be accomplished by a payer w/ one email adding people's registration w/out their emails (if that's what a company wants). Then the registration system would send email to person, or if email missing, then to payee's email - but ONE of those would have to exist

[11:39am] yarko: also could provide (?) perhaps a CSV form [option] to download, and allow upload to register by CSV

[11:45am] dougn: a shoping cart type solution is also fine
[11:45am] massimodipierro_: or allow individual attedees to register, choose their own tutorial, etc and delegate somedy else to pay for them?

>>> Multi registration scenario / use case: people register, but do not pay. Some HR persons logs in to register / pay for people. Registration system should (yarko's image) provide a form w/ just a list of people, but if the name already exists, then allow to attach to an existing registration, else create a registration. The test condition will be William Smith - is that Bill Smith? Need to work out (declare Company, contact person, and individual registration claiming company will pay).

[11:55am] tpollari: I would say that we'd want to enforce uniqueness in the combination of name and email address
>>> this may imply we want 2 email slots per registration, one of them optional. .... anyway, need to think thru the right shape of data for these forms before hauling off and "just doing it"...

>>> system needs to work for cancelled registrations; (what about replacement people for a company's registration slot?)

Since this is related to payment issues I've decided to take on, I'll try and get these two together (w/ Massimo's help)

From Ted's comments:

4) We need to add instructions to help make sense of the non-attendee registration options, including altering the instructions at the top which say "You need to register in order to attend the conference or submit a talk proposal" -- I'd change it to something like "You need to register in order to attend the conference, register another attendee for the conference or submit a talk proposal." -- though we're not using it for proposal submission so that last bit may be confusing, right?

I (Yarko) have an idea on how to help this make sense, and will work w/ Massimo. The form should clear up a lot, and not require much in terms of instructions.

My complaints (I'll drive fixing this; Massimo, will you help when I need it?) -

And more:

1-[ ] PROFILE - needs to be renamed: Your Conference Registration (this is where you can edit yours)

2-[ ] Register for the Conference: this is the link where you register someone else; or the two (profile, and PyCon2009 need to be separate activities that can pull info from login profiles).

3-[ ] I have no way I can see to change the person I registered; need to fix this;
4-[ ] I have no way of telling who created a conference registration; need to fix this;
5-[ ] I need to be able to add info to others I registered - e.g. address; tutorials;
6-[ ] There needs to be a way for seeing who I registered so far;
7-[ ] There needs to be a way to "attach" an existing login to "those I registered" list - this is for cases where my staff registers, and I attach them, so I can continue w/ the registration process (e.g. pay).

8-[ ] In general, registrations should be editable by the logged in person who is the registrant (if attending), or the person who created the registration.

9-[ ] Given the above, it doesn't seem that setting the password for others is appropriate - there should be a way to accept a registration w/o an initialized password, and (perhaps?) "as if" that person being entered asked for a password reset - e.g. mail them a link, or one-time password.

this is in some sense complete, but I'm leaving so we can re-visit for next year; I think, along w/ one log-in for main conference site, we can address some lingering (if not urgent) things here... just a re-design review placeholder for now.
