Bug Description

Binary package hint: mplayer

Description:

Mplayer subtitle delay does not work with embedded subtitles in movie formats like OGM. But if I extract the subtitle from the movie (ie. with ogmdemux), and load it as a separate file, the subtitle delay function works normally. This is true both for the 'x' and 'z' hotkeys during movie playback, as for executing mplayer with the -subdelay option.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Play an OGM movie with embedded SRT subtitles
(MKV movies or other subtitle types should work as well, but have not been tested)

2. Press 'x' or 'z' to delay the subtitles.

3. Even if you delay by a significant number of seconds, nothing changes.

Expected behaviour:

By pressing these keys, the subtitles should be advanced or delayed accordingly.

Ubuntu Information:

Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04

Package Information:

Name: mplayer
Version: 2:1.0~rc2-0ubuntu13

Attached here is a 14MB OGM movie section.
It has DUAL AUDIO stream (which is not important to this bug), but it also has a SUBTITLE stream in SRT format.

To reproduce the bug:

Load the movie as normal in MPlayer, click with the right mouse button and then select SUBTITLES -> TRACK0. The embedded subtitles will be displayed. Now try to ajust its timing with 'z' or 'x' and you will see that there is no change. There is also no change if you load the movie using the option -subdelay.

Also attached are THE SAME SUBTITLES, extracted with ogmdemux.

To load the extracted subtitles first be sure that the embedded one is turned off... and then click with the right mouse button and select OPEN -> LOAD SUBTITLE. The external subtitles will be displayed. Try to ajust its timing with 'z' or 'x', or using the option -subdelay, and see that everything will work as it should.

I have this problem too. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04.
It seems that this problem has existed for more than 3 years and didn't fix yet.
