I do NOT think this is a duplicate, the problem with the Dells is a kernell issue with some dell stupidity in no giving a button-up message from the brightness keys. Can someone who actually knows what they're doing take a look at this please?

Indeed, this doesn't look like a duplicate. Kashi - in future, please follow the code of conduct - http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct/ . Bug reports are handled by humans, the majority of whom are volunteers, so please bear this in mind and try to be less rude in future.

Oop sorry Chris :) (and Marc) to be fair, I think I'm allowed both to call Dells stupid and misspell kernel if I really want to, but I'll avoid caps in future! And as to someone who knows what they're doing (the bit I realise now was probably interpreted as rude) I was actually referring to someone other than myself... being not particularly experienced at this. Sorry again!

That's ok. I'm going to assign this to gnome-settings-daemon, as that is responsible for drawing the graphic on the screen

Hi There, First of all i apologize for my a bit "overzealus" duplicate action from yesterday. Seeing the bunch of email i got, it gave a bit on activity on all those bugs : sorry if extra work was needed because of errors in my triaging. No offense taken of course Kashi, as you got it right : i did messed the job. I'll try and think a bit more before acting next time, hopefully ending in better result !

Well for a constructive post i can only confirm this bug occuring also on my config : (and leading afterwards to the keyboard locking issuedescribed in bug #285323 or #306363)

gtk grabs the key events to get menu working that's not a bug but a design decision, you get the change anyway probably because the button have an hardware action on your configuration
