Can you explain more clearly what you are trying to do? It sounds like you are trying to move the OpenOffice.org main window from one workspace to another and it doesn't work?

Correct.

Move the cursor over one of the desks with an open window and it says "click
to start dragging". This enables you to move an open window from one
workspace to another. This worked with any window ( that I tried ), not just
Open Office, in the previous Ubuntu but doesn't work with 8.04.

Do you still have this problem with openoffice.org 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu2 in Ubuntu 8.10?

I tried it and it works for me.

The problem is still there. It is not specific to Open Office, it applies to
all apps.
I have just updated today, 17th October, and am currently running 8.04. I
assume the update to 8.10 will be available soon.

I am not sure which effects you are referring to.

One of the first changes that I made after installation ( at the beginning
of this month from a disc supplied by the University of KZN) was to increase
the number of workspaces from two to four. As four is the default number
there would seem to be an error there. Also I suspect that the problem is
that all the workspaces are numbered "1" so the dragging does not recognise
that there is more than one workspace, even though all the workspaces are
useable as normal.

Apart from the wallpaper and screensaver, I can't think of any other changes
that I have made

I have already described the problem in previous emails.

Are you aware of the four little boxes at the bottom right of the screen,
next to the trash can?

Move your mouse over the first one and it says "current workspace: desk 1".
The next workspace says " current workspace: desk 2" and so on to desks 3
and 4. Click on the first desk and open a window, whatever you like, as
normal. You can now move that window from "desk 1" to one of the other desks
just by clicking and draging, from desk 1( click and drag in the little
boxes) to the desk of your choice.

That is how it is supposed to work. It did with the previous release of
UBUNTU that I used. It does not work with this version that I have installed
from what appears to be a bona-fide disk from the University of KZN. See my
previous email for further info.

Hiya. I reported this problem originally against the gnome-panel
workspace switcher applet; someone else thought it was compiz related;
I was never quite sure.

The applet previously allowed for moving a window from workspace to
workspace via click and drag of the miniature representations of the
window; that stopped working with the particular 'buntu upgrade, so I
reported it.

What's important is that the issue be in the queue of whichever team
is working on those applets; is that the case here?

Hi,

Like you I found that this worked in the previous Ubuntu but failed in 8.04

When I reported this as a bug, Chris Cheney replied that it was working in
8.10 so I guess that it is fixed in the latest upgrade.
