Bug Description
Binary package hint: ubiquity
Started the Xubuntu Intrepid 8.10 daily-live cd for 2008-10-09.
When it got to the desktop, I attempted to install using the Install icon on the Desktop.
Step 3 of 7, "Prepare disk space", selected "Manual", clicked on "Forward".
Box comes up, "Scanning disks", progress bar goes from 0% to 100%, box goes away.
Spinner continues spinning and there is no further progress; can not quit.
Waited 30 minutes; no further responses.
reproducible - I tried this twice. I have go to Ctl-Alt-F2, use "sudo shutdown -r now" to reboot the system out of this lockup.
Check of System Monitor shows xfce4-mixer-plugin taking 3% CPU; no other tasks running. There are 6 Bash processes sleeping. Tried killing them, they come back but there is no change in the installation screen.
I did save all the log files; attaching contents of /var/log/

Exact same install fail on 20081008 and 20081010 on IBM Thinkpad R31 and on Via motherboard 1.2 gHz Celeron.
MD5 sum's checked, check CD for defect O.K.
Intrepid Beta installed on both PC's O.K. with same choice, manual, since they are both multiple boot.
