I had the same error, but I'm running on x86, not amd64

Hey good to know I am not alone, I just saw, the status is now set to "fix
released", it's on my desktop at home, fix might com through with
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
haven't tested it yet

I just ran into this when doing an upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 (x86_64) with mostly the default packages installed and following the directions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/IntrepidUpgrades. Still not fixed?

I used the manual fix in http://<email address hidden>/msg14766.html to modify /var/lib/dpkg/info/etcinsvk.postinst and that got me by.
