Upgrade your web browser
We recommend that you upgrade your web browser so you can get the most out of Windows Live Hotmail. Upgrading should only take a few minutes. To get started, choose one of the browsers below:

    * Microsoft Internet Explorer
    * Mozilla Firefox
    * Apple Safari

If you don’t want to upgrade right now you can still continue to Windows Live Hotmail, but some parts of it may not work and it may not be displayed properly.

Are you behind a proxy of something like that? Because it may change the information provided to a Website (I have this problem at work).

i confirm the behavior on intrepid with firefox-3.0 (3.0.3+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1).
however i am unsure that this is a bug in firefox.
it could be a bug in how hotmail checks for valid browser.
changing status to confirmed.

This appears to be a user agent sniffing issue. It works correctly on Firefox 3 for Windows, and works on Firefox 3 for Linux if you use the user agent switcher, and tell it you're using Firefox 3 for Win32. Firefox is quite capable of displaying the full version of the Hotmail page, but Hotmail refuses to use the full version if it detects you're running Linux. This is a Hotmail bug, not a Firefox one, althoughh Firefox users can work around it by using the user agent switcher add-on for Firefox.

Confirmed as well. Marking as invalid, since this is actually a problem with Hotmail and not Firefox.

Changed in firefox-3.0:
status: New → Invalid

I had noticed a difference in using Ubuntu Live CD and 8.04 install.

With the Live CD user, Firefox included 3.0b; Hotmail full version works fine and includes the 'check-mail' button

but not so with the install. Can you explain why?

Hello!

I had this problem with hotmail and after searching some forums I was able to fix it.
+++++ Hotmail recognizes Firefox now. +++++++

You have to do the following in Firefox.

In the adress bar type: About:config

Accept the terms.

Then search for: USERAGENT
In the list that appears search for:

general.useragent.vendor predetermined Chain Ubuntu

Change the word: Ubuntu for: Firefox
It should read:

general.useragent.vendor predetermined Chain Firefox

and to save you close the tab then in file you select QUIT
This way the change is saved in Firefox 3.0.3

And works well under Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10

To verify that the change worked I rebooted the computer several times and no problem what so ever, hopefully it will work for anyone with this little problem.

In any case thank you for your time!!
Hope that you have a great weekend!!!

Tetsuo
