Bug Description

I have changed my menu to include the open terminal as root.

The command used by the menu shortcut is "gksu /usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator"

Just for fun I key-in sudo su and then my password.

after which I press 'e' this closes the terminal.

Thanks for reporting this bug. Could you reply with the name of the terminal emulator which is run by x-terminal-emulator. For example, on my system this is gnome-terminal which does not crash when I perform the steps above.

I believe I am using gnome terminal. On Ubuntu Hardy,
System -> Preferences -> Main Menu
Under system tools I enabled the 'Root Terminal'
Then Under
Applications -> System Tools
I click Root Terminal.
Then I issue the command:
'root@ubuntu: /home/me# sudo su'
the prompt changes to:
'root@ubuntu: /home/me# root@ubuntu: /home/me#'
this is where when I press 'e' (actually I wanted to type 'exit') that
the terminal closes by itself.

I am a newbie so if you need some system info please tell me how to
obtain them. Thanks for the quick response although over-all my ubuntu
system is usable so it is really not a big issue. I just want to help in
my own little way.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Changed in gnome-terminal:
status: New → Invalid

I tried what you have instructed me to do, but my /var/crash directory is
empty. even if I ls -a, or show hidden files in nautilus. Is it possible
that something in bash would make the terminal issue an exit command?
