Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Sometimes when I click the "go back one page" -button once, it goes two pages back. I have had this bug in previous versions of Firefox I have used. I can't reproduce it and the problem occurs randomly, maybe about once in 50 clicks. I'm not sure if this is a bug in Firefox, Ubuntu softwares in general, or in the mouse drivers because I don't use very much other programs where I need to use the mouse. But the bug is very irritating when it occurs.

Ubuntu 8.04.1
Firefox: 3.0.3
IntelliMouse 1.3A PS/2 Compatible

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
Does this bug happen with other programs as well? or is it just Firefox?
Thanks in advance.

It looks like it is a bug in Firefox.

No. The bug is not in Firefox. I closed the Evince and at the same time Firefox because both X-buttons were clicked.

Removing Firefox task since this occurs elsewhere. Adding xorg task since it may be a mouse issue.

Could you attach the output of the following:
xprop -root
gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals

Also, please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log

From https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingMouseDetection could you please follow the steps in "In case some mouse buttons or scrollwheels don't work (as expected)"

Hi Jaakko, could you also try reproducing the issue with the latest version of Intrepid?

What is Intrepid and how to install it? apt-get couldn't find the package.

It's the version of Ubuntu that will be released as final next week. We
need to know if the bug still exists in it. We're trying to get as many
fixed as possible before then. You can download the release candidate
(the version that will be final if no knew big bugs pop up) here:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/intrepid/

Or just run this in a terminal:
gksu "update-manager -d"

I found in one Finnish forum that someone else had the same bug until he changed the mouse. I'm not sure what was the mouse he used. The bug affects both of the buttons.

Same problem here in Jaunty. Could happen everywhere I left-click (right-click seems unaffected). I'm having a hard time to figure out what causes this ...
