My problem is similar to that in Question no 44800 reporeted by faith, Bhavani shankari. but I am unable to get the answer. Back and Forward arrows are inactive (greyed).Clicking on QUIT icon LEADS to disappearing of all icons on bottom bar. Search bar does not take off on mouse clicking .

Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04 from Feisty Fawn through internet.
While trying to startup/boot in recovery mode I got instruction to run apt-get autoremove libnss3-0d which i did.I also keep getting the following error messages ;
W: failed to fetch http:// archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy Release.gpg
W: failed to fetch http:// archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy-update Release.gpg
W: failed to fetch http:// archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy-security Release.gpg
Could not resolve archive.ubuntu.com
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored or old ones used instead.
Run apt-get update to correct the problems.

But on running apt-get update again I get above mentioned messages.

Please help.

It is attached herewith.
I was able to run apt-get update in terminal of one user after having
completion of startup. The error reports furnished by me were encountered
during startup in recovery mode wherein i ran apt-get update in terminal.
However symptoms reported still persist.
The disappearance of icons occurs in desktop on clicking at QUIT icon

thanks

Devinder - As this now appears to be fixed, I will close this bug report for now. In future, it would be best if you open one bug report for each problem you experience (as there appears to be multiple problems here).

If you experience this problem again, please reopen the bug by clicking on the current status in the yellow bar above and selecting "New" from the drop-down box which appears.

Thanks
