Bug Description

Binary package hint: landscape-client

possible duplicate of this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/landscape-client/+bug/268039 but i report it seperate because i use intrepid and because last comment in that bug says it will be reviewed again in intrepid.

error happened when installing the package using update-manager.
here is the terminal error :

...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/landscape-common_1.0.18-0ubuntu2_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of landscape-client:
 landscape-client depends on landscape-common; however:
  Package landscape-common is not installed.

update-manager to look for broken packages from synaptic but the package is not marked as broken there :|
update-manager also mentioned something about /usr/../python2.5/patch.py but i missed the exact location and text.

i'll try purging and re-installing and if installation success i'll post back

While the workaround results in an install, I do note that the install reports:

"landscape-client is not configured, please run landscape-config"

I do not accept the need to have to conduct further manual intervention after the install was reported to the user as being "successful" by synaptic.

confirm as well.. The problem is update manager doesn't want to install the landscape-common when it installs the landscape-client.

This should be fixed in release ubuntu3 of the package which has already been uploaded. The source is already up at the archive.

Until then, a simple "sudo apt-get install -f" fixes it for me.

this is a pretty severe (it breaks upgrades) and obvious (missing replaces in debian/control) bug. Adjusting importance.

I think it's because of a partial config, I did
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude safe-upgrade

and it was fixed

No, as I said before, it was fixed in a new upload (ubuntu3). So, everybody who tried to upgrade after that upload finished got the new package which is fixed.

So, this can be marked as closed now. Sorry about it and thanks to all who reported this issue.
