Bug Description

This is a KDE3 lib that does not appear to have a KDE4 update planned (looks dead upstream). Package has no rdepends in Intrepid (already removed).

$ apt-cache rdepends libkexif1
libkexif1
Reverse Depends:
  libkexif1-dev

libkexif | 0.2.5-2build1 | intrepid/universe | source
libkexif1 | 0.2.5-2build1 | intrepid/universe | amd64, i386
libkexif1-dev | 0.2.5-2build1 | intrepid/universe | amd64, i386

Note: Binaries exist on the ports archs too.

scott, steve, actually kphotoalbum build-depends from libkexif1-dev... so now it FTBFS... :(

$ apt-cache showsrc kphotoalbum | grep ^Build
Build-Depends: cdbs, debhelper (>= 5), docbook-to-man, libexiv2-dev (>= 0.16), libkdcraw-dev (>= 0.1.4), libkexif1-dev (>= 0.1.6), libkipi0-dev, quilt

The weird thing is that his binary doesn't depends from libkexif1, so i'm trying to understand if it could be safely removed from b-deps too.

the configure script looks for X11/Intrinsic.h at build time, so kphotoalbum needs a build-dependency on libxt-dev. If this is related to libkexif at all, it's only because the build-dependency on libkexif masked this missing build-dep previously.

next build failures:

 checking for libXext... no
 configure: error: We need a working libXext to proceed. Since configure
 can't find it itself, we stop here assuming that make wouldn't find
 them either.

[...]

checking for libz... configure: error: not found.
          Possibly configure picks up an outdated version
          installed by XFree86. Remove it from your system.

          Check your installation and look into config.log

[...]

checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.2 and < 4.0) (headers and libraries) not found. Please check your installation!

[...]
checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!

And that's the last error from configure.

So adding build-dependencies on libxt-dev, libxext-dev, zlib1g-dev, libqt3-mt-dev, and kdelibs4-dev appears to fix the build failure - or at least get it through to the point of compilation; the compile is still running here, we'll see if it completes successfully.

This bug was fixed in the package kphotoalbum - 3.1.1-2ubuntu2

---------------
kphotoalbum (3.1.1-2ubuntu2) intrepid; urgency=low

  * Add build-dep on libxt-dev, libxext-dev, zlib1g-dev, libqt3-mt-dev, and
    kdelibs4-dev and drop build-dep on libkexif1-dev (Thanks to Steve Langasek
    for working through this) (LP: #269916)
    - The un-needed build-dep on libkexif1-dev masked the need for the others
