Bug Description
Did the system update, and reloaded and the system came back and warned that X was running in Low Resolution mode, offered me the opportunity to re-configure, diagnose, etc, but after 're-configuring' and exiting that tool, ended up with a black screen with a mouse cursor, and nothing else. Restarting X via 'sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart' or reloading the computer from the command line came back with the same results. Reloaded back to 2.6.27-2-generic and things are 'better'.
Will attach Xorg.0.log.old from previous reload, and Xorg.0.log from current session. Currently using nvidia version 177 driver.

Hi,
The issue here seems to be that you get the "vesa" driver loaded under the
new kernel, when you were using "nvidia" before.
It should be that dkms is building the new modules for you. If you boot
in to the new kernel and check /var/log/messages do you see any messages
from dkms?
Thanks,
James
