crashes without warning. have noticed esp. when using mouse wheel. said mouse wheel never used to work, now works, but seems to cause problems

mouse wheel never used to work, could this be the problem?

expected to copy/paste, use page break function and scroll with mouse wheel.

program crashed, seemingly after mouse wheel use.
