Bug Description

I installed the Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex Alpha 5 on my laptop (ASUS F5N) after a full winchester formatting (so everything made by the Ubuntu installer, it was a clear install, not an upgrade).

After installing everything worked well, but after I installed the upgrades, I can't open the items of Places menu. When I click on the items in the Places menu a xterm window appears with the following message: "xterm: Could not exec /home/bazsi: Permission denied".

The linkes to Computer, CD/DVD Creator, USB Drive, Network, Connect to Server, Search for Files and Recent Documents are working, but the links to the CD drive, and the links to my folders are generating the bug message upper.

Release of Ubuntu:
Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release: 8.10

I just upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10 beta and discovered my Places menu folder entries (Home Folder, Desktop, Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos) all open with Rythymbox instead of Nautilus with the pathname as the only argument.
There's definitely something going on here...

If anyone can please offer insight into what could be causing this I'll be happy to provide any more needed details.

slash@helios:~$ grep directory /etc/gnome/defaults.list
inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop
x-directory/normal=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop

slash@helios:~$ grep directory /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop
x-directory/normal=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop;
x-directory/gnome-default-handler=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop

do you have similar configurations in .local? did you open a directory in nautilus using an application?

I did a mv ~/.local ~/.local-old and logged out and back in, and the places bar works correctly now. So it's definitely something being changed in ~/.local

After switching the directory back and relogging in, I noticed that:

slash@helios:~/.local/share/applications$ more mimeapps.list

I'm presuming the "inode/directory=rhythmbox.desktop;audacious.desktop;" is line the curlprit.
Once I removed it, the places bar opens correctly now.

The question is how it got there, and why after doing a distribution upgrade.

Could the original submitter please submit their ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list ?

You have to change the line "inode/directory=rhythmbox.desktop;audacious.desktop;" to "inode/directory=nautilus.desktop;"
