monthly reminder and welcome message

The welcome message will tell you that you get a monthly
reminder even if this feature is disabled.

There are three levels where monthly reminders can
be turned off:

per-user -- subscribeack.html template accomodates
this:

 Normally, Mailman will remind you of your
%(host_name)s
 mailing list passwords once every month, although
you
 can disable this if you prefer.

per-site -- If the site administrator turns off
monthly

reminders he can also change the text in
subscribeack.html
to reflect the policy.

per-list -- If a list administrator turns off
monthly

reminders, he has no way to reflect this in the
welcome
message. A caring site administrator could of course
add
an addition caveat to subscribeack.html:

 Normally, Mailman will remind you of your

 mailing list passwords once every month, although
you
 can disable this if you prefer. In addition,
the
 administrator of each list may decide to turn off
these
 notices.

Per-list customizations of the welcome message
would

probably require a huge overhaul, right? For now, I
think
it's sufficient to let the site administrator modify
the
template if necessary.

NB templates/convert.html also refers to monthly
password

reminders.

Your right that changing this to make it automatic would be
too large of an overhaul. It may be possible if/when we
adopt a better templating system.

For now, site administrators can override templates on a
per-list basis and that should be good enough.

I am not sure you understand my request. If the list admin
disables the monthly reminder message, all new members will
still get a welcome message saying that they *will* get a
monthly reminder.

It looks like the templates cannot handle "if" constructs,
so probably the message should be changed to "you will get
a monthly reminder if the admin has turned this on".

I know I can do this for my lists, but I figured this makes
sense for others as well.

BTW: The version I use (2.0.8) does not allow to set this
option on a per user basis.
