Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

While posting to a forum I notice a misspelling. I click to correct it, but instead of moving the cursor, all the text is selected from where the cursor was to where I clicked. The next keypress replaces the selected text. This happens most at http://goldismoney.info/ probably because that is where I post the most. It also happens at other forums. I have not seen it happen except at forums.

Ubuntu Hardy Heron
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070206 Firefox/3.0.1

Thank you for your bugreport. Since this seems to be an issue with
version 3 of the firefox browser, I'm reassigning the package.

Yes, this still happens at random intervals, once to several times daily.

Thank you for your report. Are you using a mouse or a laptop-touchpad?

I use a mouse exclusively.

This happens at random intervals, with Firefox 3.6 in Lucid Lynx 64-bit on my System 76 Pangolin laptop. I will be filling in a form on a web page or in a search field such as Google and suddenly everything I type will erase all of the cell's contents. At that point, the only way to enter text again is to restart Firefox or compose the text in Gedit (notepad) and copy and paste the contents into Firefox.

I noticed that earlier in bug's log, someone asked whether the original filer of the bug was using a touchpad or a mouse. I'm using a touchpad (though I don't have this problem in any other program but Firefox).

I would say 'bump', because this is technically what it is. I haven't been able to reproduce the conditions under which this bug is found, but I have seen it on Firefox 3 for Lucid as well. I usually use a touchpad, though it happens sometimes when I am on another Lucid terminal using a mouse. I wonder if it will ever be addressed or if Firefox 4 already solves this problem.
