Bug Description

Muting doesn't work with up to date Hardy.

Telling alsa to use "model=lenovo-ms7195-dig" works for me though.

Something like
"options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo-ms7195-dig"
in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

Hi Leviathan,

Care to do a quick test for us. The upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 is actively being developed right now. There are currently Alpha's available for testing. Alpha5, the most recent, was just released last week. Would you be willing to test Alpha5 via a LiveCD and confirm if this is still and issue for the upcoming release? More information regarding the Alpha5 release can be found at - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha5 . Please let us know your results. Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply.

Tried intrepid alpha5 earlier and the problem described above still exists.
I've just used the live cd without installation since this is not an option on this machine.

Hey!
I'm using Intrepid Beta and this problem still occurs.
While using headphones laptop sound does not mute - well I think it's running on only one line, course whatever I mute it's laptop sound AND headphones or nothing...

Guys, looking at the model quirks being used, we need you to verify that all of the following work properly:

1) speakers mute when headphones are inserted;
2) speakers unmute when headphones are removed;
3) recording from internal and external microphones functions properly;

4) (1)-(3) also hold true post-resume from suspend-to-ram and/or suspend-to-disk.

Allright. Well as I said before, I added this line to modprobe.d/alsa-base: "options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-6ch"
On startup the tone comes from internal speakers - doesn't matter if I turned them off on the last session. If I want to use external speakers, I have to mute Front and unmute PCMI => everytime I start my computer...

1) and 2) don't work. Haven't testet 3) yet.
What do you mean by 4) [german]

A bit fucked by that bug

My problems I can describe like this:

I.

1. Play some music.
2. Plug in headphones (sound goes only from headphones)
3. Mute master channel (no sound)
4. Unmute master channel (sound goes from headphones and speakers)

II.
1. Play some music (using ex: Audacious)
2. Plug in headphones (sound goes only from headphones)
3. Try to play another file (using MPlayer, amarok etc) - sound goes from headphones and speaker

It is very very annoying.
I thought that it could be problelm with my sound card so I had made tests on my coumputer under Windows Vista and everything was OK.

My computer is:
Notebook Lenovo 3000 N200 type 0769B3G.

I use Ubuntu 8.10.

Sound works only when I set in /etc/modeprobe.d/alsa-base:
options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo
or
options snd-hda-intel model=basic

Output of alsa-info.sh can be found at:

[Solved]
I had the same problem, the internal speaker didn't switch off when I plugged in the headphone.

I have the ASUS X55SV,
there are two outputs, one for the headphone and one for the line out and now it's working for the headphone output.

I made following modifications:
Add "snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire" (without options) in the "etc/modeprobe.d/alsa-base"
Activate the Service "alsa-utilis" : Menu: Service-> "operations control" -> "Services"

If "headphones" in "volume control settings" ->"switch" is selectet, it should work!

A bug should never go from 'Incomplete' to 'Confirmed'. The incomplete status means that more information is needed. Confirmed means that more than one person can confirm that the issue still exists. New means that it is still an issue for at least one person.

Brad Figg (brad-figg) wrote : Test with newer development kernel (3.0.0-11.18)

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.
