Focus issue with Metacity and Firefox

Bug Description

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04, up-to-date, and Firefox 3, also up-to-date. I'm having a problem losing focus on text inputs, like the URL bar after doing window Roll Ups.

rlandrum@hydrogen:~$ gconftool -g /apps/metacity/general/focus_mode
click
rlandrum@hydrogen:~$ gconftool -g /apps/metacity/general/action_double_click_titlebar
toggle_shade

New windows (and tabs) behave correctly. If I select text within a text input (URL bar, for instance) and move the mouse off the window, the text remains high-lighted. If I roll-up the windows by double clicking the titlebar, then expand the window by double clicking the title bar again, the text is still high-lighted, but if I re-high-light the text, and move the mouse off, the input box loses focus.

Unfortunately, I run into the bug all the time. I "roll-up" my browser screens to operate terminals, then jump back to the browser and punch in new URLs, or try to. So as not to obscure my work area, I often move (or sling) the mouse off to the side of the browser or text input field.

To demonstrate the issue, I've recorded a .ogg video, which I'll include as an attachment.

Its very likely that firefox-3.0.18 will be the last update to 3.0. it should have reached EOL in Dec. 2009 but they decided one more update.
We will be updating 3.0 to 3.6 once 3.0 reaches EOL
Please try using a new profile. Im thinking it may be related to Compiz or Theme being used. can you please disable compiz and use a new profile. let me know what happens.
Once .18 is released please test with that if we havent found the cause

That video was taken in 2008, on a different machine, at a different
company. I'm currently using Ubuntu default theme (Human) without compiz.
I reproduced the problem today.
