Bug Description

Changing the default startup from mythfrontend to mythwelcome by editing /etc/mythtv/settings leads to a correct startup of mythwelcome (without starting mythfrontend) when starting with a nvram/acpi timed wakeup.

If doing a manual startup, mythfrontend is started directly after mythwelcome as intended by the mythwelcome devs, but the mythwelcome screen is not displayed after exiting mythfrontend. Instead, the XFCE desktop appears, which does not allow to re-initiate mythfrontend with the remote if the backend is still occupied with e.g. transcoding/commflagging a.s.o.

After 2 weeks of testing the applied workaround posted in the link i posted the 2008-08-25 i can confirm that it solved the issue:

The workaround consists of adding the following two lines to

/usr/share/mythtv/mythfrontend.sh
================================
#source our dialog functions
. /usr/share/mythtv/dialog_functions.sh

+ # deletes .ICEauthority resolves problems with mytharchive and mythwelcome
+ rm /home/gaby/.ICEauthority

This bug was fixed in the package mythtv - 0.21.0+fixes18722-0ubuntu1

---------------
mythtv (0.21.0+fixes18722-0ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * Sync against release-0-21-fixes branch. Fixes:
    - (LP: #260429)
  * Update 24_fix_h264_frame_counting.dpatch to incorporate changeset
    18542 from trunk <http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/changeset/18542>
  * debian/patches/:
    - drop 27_disable_deinterlacing_in_guide.dpatch because it's been
      committed upstream
    - add 28_fix_v4l.dpatch (LP: #259321)
  * Add debian/mythtv-frontend.dirs back in (LP: #280792)
  * Add kdesudo to list of graphical sudo providers in
    debian/dialog_functions.sh to account for KDE 4 in Intrepid (LP: #274602)

And the reason for this is that the patch wasn't backported to 0.21-fixes for some reason, just applied to trunk. Therefore a sync against fixes doesn't solve the issue. Please open again, and convince myth people to backport. This issue breaks many wakeup scenarios.

Change has been pushed out to official Karmic channels (for 0.22).
0.21-fixes branch has effectively been closed upstream.
