Your log files shows that you are running in safe mode i.e. vesa driver in low resolution. It would greatly help to track down your problem if you could provide the X log file with the radeonhd driver activated in your configuration.

If you're using Intrepid then check that you've install the package xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd and try to reconfigure x using "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" or you can try envy-ng

Furthermore, there are some threads talking about it on ubuntuforums see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=653093

It would also make sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu

sounds like you installed the proprietary, closed-source "fglrx" driver. This will break the ati, radeon and radeonhd drivers.

Thank you for your helps, i tried to understand what you said..

I accidentally fixed my problem, in this way:
i wtartup using recovery mode, chose xwindow setting recovery,
this fixed my x configuration.. and now, most things seems ok, except
compiz not working, but i will try for it..

what i expect from ubuntu:
resolve resolution problems without having to deal with setting in xorg.conf,
by trying different configurations on my xwindow...

thanks a lot

you may close this case.

bvidinli, thanks for your feedback. It is absolutely meant to work out of the box, without any xorg.conf reconfiguration or tweaking, and without installing the proprietary driver. I think your card is relatively new, and the radeonhd driver in intrepid is not really up to date. Please try again when alpha 4 is out. The live CD should work out of the box. Otherwise, please reopen the bug and attach the Xorg.0.log.
