Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

This bug is highly related to bug 199514:

I installed Intrepid alpha 2 a few days ago. At the time of the install, focus-follows-mouse did not work with Compiz but worked with Metacity.

The resolution in bug 199514, setting "GConf Configuration Backend" and "Enable integration into the desktop environment", caused focus-follows-mouse to work.

So: the real root cause of this bug appears to be: in Intrepid alpha 2 or so, the default for compiz is "Flat-File configuration backend" whereas it should default to "GConf Configuration Backend" and "Enable integration into the desktop environment". I suppose someone should check where this default is defined for Intrepid installations or GNOME creation of new users, and verify it's set correctly?

Thanks very much.

Confirmed on up-to-date Intrepid 8.10 Alpha install.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new user using the users-admin tool
2. Log in as new user
3. Open CompizConfig Settings Manager from System -> Preferences
4. Click on Preferences

What do I expect to happen:
With a fresh user (no modifications to profile) I expect the GConf backend to be selected and desktop integration to be enabled

What actually happens:
The Flat-file backend is selected and desktop integration is disabled

I just noticed this revert unexpectedly from gconf to flat file since alpha 3.

I believe someone explained to me that if there was a problem with gconf at any point, it would revert to flat file and stay there.

Since at beta time a lot of hardy users will upgrade for testing, this should get fixed by beta. It doesn't sound too hard to fix either. Sebastien, can you please have a look at this, or if it's too difficult, explain what needs to happen here?
