Crackling sound at login through PC speaker - Intrepid Alpha 2

Bug Description

Intrepid Alpha 2

As login is being processed and the login sound is being played a crackling
sound is heard coming from the PC speaker within the system case.

Does not do this in Hardy on same system.

This also happens on my system with a test installation of alpha 3 candidate image 20080724.1 (amd64).

Bug 251350 was marked as a duplicate of this bug. Could any of you try XFCE (xubuntu-desktop) to see if the problem is present in there? On my system the problem only occurs with Gnome, not gdm or XFCE.
