Bug Description

In applications that use libgnomeprint2.2 (I tried abiword and gnumeric) layout
settings are not respected when I preview a page or actually print it. In
particular, If I change the 'portrait' to 'landscape', in preview mode my page
is rotated 90 degrees (good) but my text is rotated as well (not good). As a
result, nothing happens. Then, when I print it, my printer confirms my preview.

Right now, I have to reboot into Debian Sarge to print certain gnumeric sheets
because I don't know how to work around this nasty bug.

Here is a more detailed description from the upstream gnome bug #334719 :

1. Have spreadsheet.
2. Goto page setup.
3. Change page orientation to Landscape.
4. Click on OK to accept.
5. Goto print preview.
6. Page appears in landscape mode, but text/data appears in portrait mode.
7. Close print preview. Goto page setup.
8. Change feed orientation to Rotated 90 Degrees.
9. Goto print preview.
10. Text/data now appears to be printing correctly.
11. Goto print (whether to physical printer [Samsung ML-2010] or PDF file) and
page will print incorrectly in portrait mode.

I think that upstream bug #115476 (as set for this bug) is not related to this bug (except, apparently, comment #13 _only_). I believe upstream #334719 is exactly the same bug, and that comment #1 on that bug is incorrect.

I agree, I changed it according to your comment and marked bug 6443 and all of its duplicates a duplicate on that one here.

I changed the description to be more accurate, I also confirmed, looking at the duplicates

This sounds like bug 34112. Can you please upgrade to latest dapper-updates packages (libgnomeprint in particular) and check again?

Reading bug 34112 I suspect you mean libgnomeprint 2.12.1-3ubuntu2. However, as mentioned at #34112, those binary packages have not yet entered the archive. Only 2.12.1-3ubuntu1 is available. It's now 8 days since you uploaded that package so I'm wondering if something went wrong with the package queue. I'd love to try this fix and see if it applies to this bug!

I compiled and installed libgnomeprint2.2-0_2.12.1-3ubuntu2_i386.deb and
libgnomeprint2.2-data_2.12.1-3ubuntu2_all.deb with no results. It still doesn't work. I'll try to attach a screenshot of my output. The only thing needed to reproduce that output is following steps 1 to 5 from the top of this page.

Just open spreadsheet, go to page setup, change page orientation to landscape, hit ok, choose page preview.

I confirm this bug. Landscape printing in abiword provides only a result shown in a portrait layout.
Tested with the pdf generator

I would like this moved to critical as this is a basic feature needed for printing and I can't print my documents with out it. (And I use my things at work and church) Does anyone know if this is a bug in Dapper too? or is it just edgy?

Which version of Ubuntu and libgnomeprint are you using?

Gnumeric still can't print landscape here (feisty). If I print to a PDF file, and when I view output.pdf in xpdf it's in portrait.

Might be related to bug #125691 on firefox, and I suspect there might be some setting in $HOME that isn't getting written properly (perhaps related to the discussion in bug #34112).

Gedit and evince (on pdf's with landscape pages) both show this issue, on gutsy and feisty.

Confirmed in Ubuntu Hardy:

- Xubuntu Hardy x64 8.04
- libgnomeprint2.2-0 2.18.4-1
- abiword 2.4.6-3ubuntu3

Printpreview works fine, but when I send to print in Landscape, it prints portrait (chunked).
If I change inside the printing options to "Landscape", it will print with the correct orientation
but chunked.

If I print to PDF, it always print it as portrait (chunked).

For reference, on Hardy with evince, it always prints what it displays with print preview, at least for me.
