Hi Paul
If you start it with the command "firefox -safe-mode", to disable all plugins and add-ons, does it still happen? If not, try enabling and disabling different ones to find out what's causing it.
Where to report flash player problems depends on what flash player you've got. Unfortunately this is a bit complex... Try going to "about:plugins" in firefox, and seeing if you can find out. On here (Launchpad): nonfree is the package for the official Adobe flash player. You can report bugs, but as it's not open source, there's not a lot we can do about it.
-flashplugin-
-Given what you describe, I think it's most likely that you have either swfdec or gnash--in each case, bugs can be reported against their package. And they are open source, so they may improve. Check that the bugs haven't already been reported, though...
-There's also an old attempt to make a free flash player, called libflash. This hasn't been updated for ages, so if you are using it I suggest you switch to something else.
