Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hi, I'm running Ubuntu Hardy, the wireless adapter is intel (R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. I'm wondering why I can't connect to my wireless router (DLINK DSL-G604T). The network manager can detect my wireless network but unable to connect to it. I'm able to connect to other public wireless network but not mine at home. I'm also able to connect via wireless to the network in Windows XP.. I don't know what info to give but ill gladly post more about it if u guys ask.. Thanks :)

I have the same Problem. It is new since yesterday, so the bug must have come somehow with the last few updates. I can connect to the Internet over the console if I kill the NetworkManager, so I guess the error has to be somewhere there. Please fix this as soon as possible, because this is a real pain and a bug that one could avoid with proper testing of updates! But still thanks for this usually user friendly operating system.

First you have to scan for the accesspoint with: "iwlist scan"
Then you have to set the data, this may differ. If you use for example a 128-Bit WEP with a string password you have to type:
sudo ifconfig wlan0 essid "[Name of the Connection]" ap [MAC Address of the Access point] key s:[Key]
And then to get an IP Address:
sudo dhclient wlan0

maybe you have to use another device name then wlan0, like ath0 or something like that

Before you can connect like that you have to kill the Network Manger, because else it will overwrite your connection data:
sudo killall NetworkManager

for more information on ifconfig and iwlist read the manpages: just type man ifconfig or man iwlist in the console.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Intrepid also hasn't recieved a patch to fix the issue. although it can
connect to the DSL-G604T through ethernet, it still doesn't support
wireless. The router in question is Revision B, but Revision A has the same
issue.

I updated to Intrepid and still it won't connect. I need to use the wireless since the ethernet port for my router doesn't work anymore..
