Bug Description

Binary package hint: dvdrip

When I click in the button CREATE NOW to create a vobsub it appears the message:

Need IFO files in place. You must re-read TOC from DVD

In my case i have the IFO files in the localdisk, along with my .VOB files, etc

but it seems that it always requires to read directly from DVD. I'm using version 0.98.6 from ubuntu repositories.

Confirmed, I have exactly the same problem. According to this http://www2.exit1.org/archive/dvdrip-users/2007-07/msg00002.html the problem is a variable which is not populated correctly when dealing with hard-disk dumps or loopback mounted images instead of real DVD's

Bug still exists on 9.04.
Does anyone know of a fix/workaround?

What worked for me was to copy the .ifo files manually from the DVD to the tmp/ifo/ directory.

I've been working on this too. The problem seems to be that the DVD needs to be mounted before you start ripping. If you just insert the DVD and rip it, dvd::rip does not copy the ifo files to the correct place. If you make sure the DVD is mounted first then it will copy the ifo files and vobsub creation will work.

Cerainly on my system, inserting a DVD does not mount it. I have to make sure I've browsed int in a file manager first, then dvd::rip works correctly.

Same here. Either mount the dvd first or copy manually. That should be easy to fix though.

I'm getting the same problem, but I don't have access to the dvd anymore, and I don't wanna have to burn it just to get the vobsub file.
I mounted the dvd using Gmount and it got the same error, then I tried with Archive Mounter but couldn't find where was the ISO mounted.
But after copying the .ifo files to tmp/ifo/ it apparently worked, I got a .sub/.idx pair of files but, after trying to play them with the ripped .avi on VLC, I get "VLC can't recognize the input's format:", does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

The problem persists

I had to rerip two times before I found this solution.

It seems related to a locale issue : if I run
$ LANG=C dvdrip
then, when extracting the dvd title, the ifo is correctly copied and vobsub works.
Hope that helps.
