I have a document where when viewing or printing, yellow hilighting in the document covers up text so it's only readable if you select it. It displays fine on xpdf and Adobe. The document is attached, an example of it is on page 42.

Could it be, this is a bug in libpoppler-glib2? There is no highlighting problem in okular, which also uses poppler cairo, but in package libpoppler-qt4-2.
Carlos Garcia Campos mentioned this problem as an poppler cairo backend problem (in the first bug report http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=490648).

Yes and as Sebastien and Carlos also pointed out the upstream poppler bug is bug 12979 which is already linked, thanks.

I just checked this, and it appears to be working in Evince with Poppler 0.8.7.
