Download problem with ubuntu-8.04-desktop-powerpc.iso

ubuntu-8.04-desktop-powerpc.iso has stopped downloading at 647.3 MB. This is under Kubuntu 8.04. The same problem occurred when trying to download the image under Ubuntu 8.04; I didn't note where the download under Ubuntu failed but I believe it was right around, if not the same, location.

Hi Adrien, thanks for using Ubuntu, and thanks for taking the time to contribute by filing this bug report! However, it needs more information before we can work with it. First, where are you downloading the ISO from (a URL), and what are you using to download it? From the web (what application, firefox?) or a torrent file?

You say it stopped downloading at 647.3MB, is this not the full file size? Does it not work?

Hi Mike, excuse me for the incomplete information. In both cases, I used Firefox (v2 on Kubuntu and v3 on Ubuntu), downloading from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/hardy/release/ The image file size is 720,211,968 bytes.

I just tried downloading the image using wget, and the download screeched to a halt at 94% (678,866,256 bytes). Here is the wget command I used:

$wget http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/hardy/release/ubuntu-8.04-desktop-powerpc.iso

Thanks Adrien. If Firefox 2, Firefox 3, and wget are all having trouble, it sounds like not an issue in Ubuntu but with the ISO on the website or the hosting itself. I don't believe they use bug tracking, but let me find out. Anyone who knows more please chime in here.

Does the wget command give any error? Are you sure you have enough space on the hard drive to download the entire file?

I just tried a second wget and it also failed at 94%. Looks like the ISO image is bad.

I have more than enough space on the hard drive and wget doesn't report any errors, it simply hangs at 94%.

Isn't there someone who can simply check the file and replace it?

I haven't used 8.04 in a while and I doubt the problem will re-create itself. If no one else has experienced it you should close it. It was likely just some kind of network problem.
